Trails of Cold Steel 3 Is PS4 Exclusive, Coming Fall 2017 in Japan

Nihon Falcom's next Kiseki game won't be coming to PlayStation Vita.

News by Mike Williams, .

Falcom has announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III (Sen no Kiseki 3) is coming to Japan in Fall 2017. Unfortunately, players who have been following the series on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita will need to upgrade, as Trails of Cold Steel III will be exclusive to PlayStation 4.

Falcom previously mentioned that this could be the case and the publisher ultimately decided focus on one platform. This will mark the series' first entry on Sony's current home console.

Here's the game's synopsis, according to Falcom's teaser site (translation via Gematsu):

"Septian Calendar 1206: The end of the civil war led to the turning point of a new era for the Erebonian Empire. Centering on Rean Schwarzer as the 'Gray Knight,' the young man who came to be seen as a hero within the country, a new story of young heroes will unfold."

There's no word whether Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II will be making the jump to PlayStation 4 so players will have a matched set. On the bright side, the game's improved visual style is looking grand!

All I care about is if it comes West!

I love the menu layout in the fight screen - while a little cluttered, it looks really dynamic and attractive.

@cldmstrsn Hey, off-topic - how are you enjoying FFXV? I'm about 20 hours in, and still on chapter 3. Taking a slightly meandering route... absolutely loving every bit of it though.

@VotesForCows I have to say I really loved it. I finished everything in about a hundred hours. Those superboss/endgame dungeons were so much fun. Once the update hits I might do a new game + but for right now im moving to some other games like Trails of Cold Steel II hehe. Oh I also meandered almost the whole way. I dont think I even beat XV's storyline till about 55 or 60 hours cause I was just digging the open world part and doing the hunts. Thats probably one of my favorite parts cause I loved to do the hunts in XII and they are very similar. I hope you keep enjoying it.

Much as I love my vita, this is probably a good sign in terms of the game being able to be brought west and have a decent return-on-investment for XSEED. I doubt the vita will be viable here much longer, it's already quite niche.

I know these aren't exactly "PS4" graphics, but wow this is beautiful.

@cldmstrsn The hunts are a great addition - they also seem a little more difficult (for a given difficulty level) than other missions of the same level. I'm mostly enjoying the character based stuff, like the little side missions that (randomly?) come up when you're camping. Such a cool game - feel like I've only just scratched the surface so far!

    OoooOOOoow, new characters! :D

Bit disappointed no Vita version, but considering how poorly CSII ran in a couple spots it's probably for the best.

Looks great! I really need to hurry up and play the earlier games in this series, but there's so many games to play! What with FFXV, Last Guardian, and Dragon Quest Builders, I'm gonna be busy for awhile!

I got jokes, hopes, dreams, and accolades about this, but they're 99% spoilers and the very premise is one so I'll hold out other than say bring on more of that JDK goodness.

Finally, something cribbed from Persona that doesn't throw off their formula! *runs*

I hope maybe we get some nice remasters of the original 2 to play on ps4. Falcom aren't shy of putting a game on literally every platform though so we should be safe.
