Trails of Cold Steel 3 Coming to North America With an Experienced Localization Team

NIS America is bringing in support for a new localization.

NIS America has announced that it's bringing The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 to North America and Europe, two years after first coming out in Japan. NISA also revealed that certain English localizers from previous Trails of Cold Steel games are coming to work on the new release.

Trails of Cold Steel 3 introduces a new squad of heroes who will interact with characters from past Trails of Cold Steel games. The new sequel takes place a year and a half since the end of the Erebonian Civil War, where new conflicts are brewing within the Empire. Series protagonist Rean Schwarzer is now an instructor at the Thors Branch Campus military academy who oversees the new heroes in Class VII.

NISA announced at a PAX South panel today that it's bringing on a localization support team with members who worked on the first two Trails of Cold Steel titles back when they were published by XSEED. The news comes after a turbulent 2018 when NIS America came under fire after several mistranslations were found in Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana.

Ys 8 suffered several mistranslation and localization issues, first on the PS4 and PS Vita when NISA released it in 2017. Later Ys 8 ports for the PC and the Nintendo Switch faced similar localization issues that required several patches to fix. As a result, the president of NISA issued a public apology.

News of the previous Trails of Cold Steel localizers coming on board for Trails of Cold Steel 3 will hopefully inspire confidence that the localization issues from Ys 8 won't happen again. XSEED Games will still be localizing and publishing PlayStation 4 enhanced ports of the first two Cold Steel games.

You can currently play the first two Trails of Cold Steel games on PC. There's currently no release date for Trails of Cold Steel 3 on PS4 other than fall 2019.
