Fans eagerly awaiting the North American localization of the next game in the Legend of Heroes series will have to wait just a hair longer. Originally set for September, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 will now be released on October 22, 2019 in North America and Europe.
According to an NIS America press release, the delay is to "guarantee as successful a launch window as possible." Waiting won't be too bad, however, as there will also be a demo for Trails of Cold Steel 3 coming prior to launch. No details on when that will happen quite yet though.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 is the third game in a quartet, and part of the larger Legend of Heroes RPG epic. For those who dig school life and aren't scared of a massive hour-count investment, it can scratch the right itch—just be aware that it's the slowest of slow burns.
We recently had the chance to chat with president Toshihiro Kondo of Nihon Falcom, the developer of Trails of Cold Steel 3 and one of the oldest role-playing game studios around. During our interview, we asked whether there were plans to bring more of Nihon Falcom's games, like Trails of Cold Steel 3, to the Nintendo Switch, where that slow burn could be a great fit for the portable platform. While Kondo says they're happy to pursue it, it's a weird question to answer because the studio just isn't too familiar with the platform.
"In Japan when this question comes up, it always, we get this weird thing where it's like 'Falcom doesn't want to work on Switch,' or 'Falcom doesn't like Switch,' or something," Kondo told us via translator. "And that's not... The plain and simple truth of it all is that we just don't have the knowhow and the ability to be able to work on Switch games right now."
Trails of Cold Steel 3 won't be coming to the Switch just yet, but it will be headed to PlayStation 4 this October. Be sure to check out our feature on how the Trails of Cold Steel series matches up to another upcoming school life-meets-war game, Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
