The winner of the EVO 2017 Player's Choice charity drive has been revealed! The drive allowed fans to donate to decided which game ended up taking the ninth main event slot at EVO 2017. The list included Pokken Tournament, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Killer Instinct, Arms, Windjammers, Skullgirls, Mortal Kombat XL, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Nidhogg.
The winner was Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 with $71,690 donated from 1,487 donors. This makes the full EVO 2017 main event lineup Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Super Smash Bros Melee, Injustice 2, Blazblue: Central Fiction, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, King of Fighters XIV, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.
Early on, there were some interesting pushes, with Killer Instinct, Windjammers, and Arms showing some strength, but after a week it was clear that the pole position was between UMvC3 and Pokken Tournament. The latter game finished in second place with $62,431 in donations from 742 donors, meaning there were fewer Pokken Tournament donors, but they spent much more.
Given the effort by Pokken Tournament fans, EVO organizers announced that they would commit $10,000 to help support Pokken events this year.
It's worth noting that these are the unofficial winners, because the donations still need to be tallied. Pokken Tournament could still win if a number of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 donations don't clear.
EVO 2017 returns to the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada this year from July 14-16.
