Ultra Street Fighter 4 Adds Character Edition Select

Ultra Street Fighter 4 Adds Character Edition Select

Ultra SFIV will allow you to play previous iterations of your favorite SF characters.

In the five years since Street Fighter IV first launched, we've been treated to three more versions of the game: Super Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012. Each version has tweaked and twisted the roster in the name of balance, meaning SFIV Sagat is a different beast from SFIV:AE2012 Sagat. Now the next edition, Ultra Street Fighter IV, is heading our way this year with even more balance changes and new characters.

Wouldn't it be great to match up all the different versions in the arena? Capcom thought so. Ultra Street Fighter IV will include an Edition Select mode, allow players to pick their favorite versions of their favorite characters and battle it out.

"With Edition Select, players can now pick between the Vanilla SFIV, Super SFIV, Super SFIV AE, Super SFIV AE ver. 2012 and Ultra SFIV versions of their favorite character and create matches could only take place in our dreams," wrote Capcom's Peter Rosas. "Just thinking about Daigo using SFIV Ryu vs. Justin Wong using SSFIV Rufus is getting me pretty hype."

Unfortunately, you won't be able to face off against friends who aren't local, as Edition Select mode is not available on online. You'll have to go back to the old couch multiplayer if you want to put vanilla Sagat up against Ultra Ryu.

Ultra Street Fighter IV is scheduled for an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release in June 2014. The PC version will come a few months later in August.

If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
