USgamer's RPG Podcast Examines the RPGs that are Hot in Japan in 2016

Elliot Gay joins Kat to talk about Odin Sphere, SMT x Fire Emblem, and more.

Axe of the Blood God is our weekly RPG podcast hosted by Kat Bailey. You can find the show notes for previous episodes here.

In this week's episode of Axe of the Blood God (download link here), Kat is joined by returning guest Elliot Gay to discuss the RPGs that have been recently released in Japan, including SMT x Fire Emblem and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.

In addition to talking about some of the more recent releases, Elliot and I take a deeper dive into The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, which I touched upon last week. Elliot is a big fan of the The Legend of Heroes games, and he helps make the case for Nihon Falcom's series. He also helps make amends for my dismissal of Bravely Second in the last episode. So if you want to hear more about these two games, you're in luck!

Overally, this is looking like a much stronger year for Japanese RPGs than last year, with Bravely Second, Fire Emblem Fates, and Persona 5 all looking very promising. If you're so inclined, feel free to share your most anticipated JRPGs in the comments, and we may read your comment on a future episode of Axe of the Blood God. In the meantime, check out Elliot's blog, where he covers JRPGs with his customary even-handedness and attention to detail.
