USstreamer: Head Back to Zebes With the Original Metroid [Archived]

For this Retro Thursday stream, Jeremy travels back to where it all began: Planet Zebes and Metroid for NES. Watch it at 5:30 ET/2:30 PT!

Nintendo may have forgotten about the Metroid series, but its legacy lives on in the hearts of fans and indie developers alike. (Have you checked out Axiom Verge yet? You should check out Axiom Verge.)

Metroid and I go way back; it was the first game I ever bought for the first game console I ever owned... more years ago that I care to contemplate. It took me quite a while to get the hang of it, but once I did I was hooked — not only on Metroid, but on both platformers and games about exploration as well. I've recently been replaying its controversial (but much better than many people give it credit for) sequel Metroid Fusion, and that has put me in the mood to revisit the original game. Here! On live Internet television!

It's been a few years since I last played Metroid, so my reflexes and memories may be a little fuzzy. Bear with me, though! We'll get to the end together... if not today, then in a future stream. In fact, if this goes well, we may just have to do the entire Metroid series, if only so I can o to bat for poor Metroid Fusion. The journey begins this evening at 5:30 p.m. for you East Coast types, or those visiting our shore for PAX East, and 2:30 p.m. for those on the other side of the country.

Watch the stream here on USgamer or on our Twitch channel this afternoon! I'll try for the "just in bailey" ending, but no promises.
