Valkyria Chronicles Sequel Heads West and Expands to Xbox One in 2017

The Valkyria Chronicles sequel is coming to the Americas and Europe, with a new friend in tow.

Sega announced today that Valkyria Revolution, the Valkyria Chronicles sequel known in Japan as Valkyria of the Blue Revolution, is coming to the Americas and Europe in the second quarter of 2017. The game was released in Japan on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, but it'll be heading West with a new platform in tow: Sega has announced an Xbox One version as well!

Valkyria Revolution will have a physical and digital release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while the Vita version will be digital-only. Sega will handle the publishing duties in the Americas, while Deep Silver will be doing the honors in Europe.

In its press release, Sega also explained the game's new title. Previously, it was translated as "Valkyria Azure Revolution".

"The way the first Valkyria title was localized had a really nice ring to it: Senjou no Varukyuria (lit. Valkryia of the Battlefield) became Valkyria Chronicles. When faced with Aoki Kakumei no Varukyuria (lit. Valkyria of the Blue Revolution), a literal translation was unwieldy, and difficult from a graphic design standpoint as well, and adding in extra punctuation (e.g. Valkyria: Azure Revolution) didn't help either. So we stuck to a similar cadence of the first Valkyria title and went with a two-word title," Sega wrote.

Valkyria Revolution is also a very different game from its predecessor. It exists in the same universe, but in a different time period. Even more striking is the game has left behind turn-based tactics for real-time strategy.

"Given how vastly different the two games are, the new name helps to ensure the two titles stood equal but apart from each other. So, we dropped the 'Azure' from the title, and voila!"

Despite the name change, fans who were looking forward to the sequel will be able to enjoy Valkyria Revolution on PS4, Xbox One, and Vita in Q2 2017!
