Valorant's Next Agent is Killjoy, Who's Bringing a Turret to a Gunfight

She'll start locking Agents down next week.

Riot Games has revealed the next agent joining Valorant's roster, and they've got even more gadgets to change up firefights. Killjoy arrives on Aug. 4 to wreck your happiness with turrets and nanomachines in tow.

Though Killjoy's tools leaked a little early last night, today we got the full breakdown of Killjoy, including her look and details on her kit. As a genius inventor hailing from Germany, Killjoy has a couple cool gizmos that go above and beyond your average smoke or molotov.

Her Alarmbot will hunt down enemies in range, exploding and applying a Vulnerable status. She has a turret that can fire on enemies in a cone in front of it, and a Nanoswarm grenade that unleashes a swarm of nanobots on unsuspecting opponents. Killjoy's Ultimate ability, Lockdown, deploys a device that traps enemies caught in the radius. Basically, she's all about zone control and lockdown.

Valorant is Riot Games's entry into the tactical shooter genre, and my feelings on it have been pretty positive so far. Killjoy seems to emphasize the way I like to play in-game—controlling an area, locking down enemies, generally ruining their good times—so I'm looking forward to seeing her join up.

Despite Valorant being Riot's only current game not set in the League of Legends universe, it's developed a style all its own, and even seen some success in tournament viewership. In the age of COVID-19, it's hard to gauge what an esports success looks like. The fact that Valorant is sticking around and still churning out updates even after the initial launch hype seems like a good sign for its long-term health.
