Warcraft 3 Reforged Gets User Review Bombed to the Bottom of Metacritic
Reforged is probably not the worst game ever.
Warcraft 3: Reforged is still going through the fire. Currently, Reforged has taken the crown as the worst user score on Metacritic, landing at 0.5 in user reviews. There were a few shenanigans to make this happen, however. The previous title that sat at the bottom was Day One: Garry's Incident, which originally had a user score of 0.4. A few random user reviews in the past few days have pushed that to 0.8, putting Reforged at the bottom.
Of course, there are worse games than Warcraft 3: Reforged, but this is how some in the community feel their voices will be heard. It says more about user reviews rather than the game itself, as they can be managed and pushed in any direction with enough users working towards a single target. We even have a term for it these days: "Metabomb".
That said, there are problems with Warcraft 3: Reforged. Fans have been very unhappy with Blizzard pulling back on the more extensive changes originally promised back during Blizzcon 2018. They were also unhappy with perceived visual downgrades from the 2018 demo and the final release. The community that had been playing the original Warcraft 3 for over a decade was angry that Reforged scrubbed the original client out of existence. And modders were giving the side eye to Blizzard's change in the Terms of Service to give the company the rights to any mods made in Reforged.
It was a perfect storm of controversy, one that Blizzard still hasn't commented on publicly. The company has seemingly shifted in policy though. One of the complaints surrounding Warcraft 3: Reforged was the difficulty in getting a refund. The Warcraft 3 subreddit noticed that Blizzard has added an automated system in order to easily refund purchases of the game. Of course, some are still reporting that they've had trouble trying to refund their purchases.
As it stands, we're just waiting to see how Blizzard intends to improve the image of Warcraft 3: Reforged. Is there an overhaul or perhaps a return of the original Warcraft 3 client in our future?
