Pack your umbrella hackers, because the next Watch Dogs will take place in jolly old England. At least according to the latest reports.
Last week, we talked about how Ubisoft snuck a Viking-themed easter egg into The Division 2, supposedly hinting at the next location for the Assassin's Creed series. Kotaku reported that two sources confirmed the next Assassin's Creed game, codenamed "Kingdom," is indeed Viking-set. Also in the report is a short note revealing that the next Watch Dogs is going to take place in London.
The rumors for a London-set Watch Dogs 3 has been around for a good amount of time. A while back, a Watch Dogs 2 patch added a little reference to London, suggesting it was the next location for Ubisoft's action-hacker series.
No other information is available on either Ubisoft's Viking Assassin's Creed or London-set Watch Dogs 3, but both are interesting new locations for both series. Particularly for Watch Dogs, which has been praised for its accurate recreation of real-life cities—at least San Francisco in Watch Dogs 2, anyways. With a new adventure in London, it will be cool to see how Ubisoft translates one of the most famous cities in the world into video game form.
The Watch Dogs series is one of great potential that hasn't quite panned out. The first teaser for Watch Dogs 1 is now seen as overly ambitious, what with its real-time hacking mechanics. Watch Dogs 2 met some of those ambitions, but also became more action-oriented in the process. Will Watch Dogs 3 finally deliver on the promise of the first Watch Dogs teaser all those years ago? We'll likely find out later this year, probably at E3.
