Amazon UK has leaked the upcoming Watch Dogs game set to be announced at Ubisoft's E3 2019 press conference. Titled Watch Dogs Legion, the new game in the series is set in London as previously rumored.
Kotaku confirmed the leak in its own report, and highlighted the product description from Watch Dogs Legion's Amazon UK store page. The description reveals what looks to be a major gameplay feature for Legion which will let you play as any NPC in the game.
"Play as anyone, Every individual you meet in the open world, has a full set of animations, voice over, character traits and visuals that are generated & guided by gameplay systems."
It's unclear how this mechanic will work in practice, but Kotaku says that "players will be able to see different things at different points in the game" based on which NPC the player is controlling at the time. The mechanic is supposedly very complex and was difficult for programmers to implement.
The NPC mechanic is not new to a Ubisoft game. Driver: San Francisco featured a similar mechanic, but for cars. Considering switching between cars seems simpler than switching between any NPC, each with their own animations, it's easy to imagine how much more complex the system could work in Watch Dogs Legion.
A UK-set Watch Dogs game has been rumored for some time thanks to an update to Watch Dogs 2 teased a possible UK setting for Watch Dogs 3. However, nothing about the new Watch Dogs game was confirmed until today.
We'll have to wait until E3 2019 for the full reveal. Check out our Ubisoft E3 2019 guide for schedule times, planned announcements, and more.
