Far Cry 5 came out this week, and while the initial ads for the game pitched a serious game about what happens when a cult takes over a Montana town, the game is pure Far Cry in that players have a lot of freedom of play while liberating Hope County. This could mean teaming up with bears to kill cultists, or somehow better yet, using an almighty shovel.

Streamers and players have already zeroed in on one of Far Cry 5's most unlikeliest weapons, the simple shovel. Threads on reddit are dedicated to the almighty shovel, while trick shots of players using the shovel to liberate the citizens of Hope County are starting to swarm Twitch. In Far Cry 5, players have a lot of freedom in how they play which makes for a fun sandbox of activity. Players can fly planes, recruit dogs, and use household items to wreck havoc against the cultists who have taken over this little part of Montana. But in a world where players can liberate Hope County any way they please, a lot of them are choosing to forgo anything flashy and opt for the humble shovel instead.

Far Cry 5 takes place in the fictional Hope County where a charismatic cult leader has taken over the area. The player controls a mercenary who is tasked with freeing the area. This being a Far Cry game, players will no doubt experience firsthand what it's like going toe-to-toe with a crazy maniac.
