Following yesterday's build-up, the new game from WayForward was revealed during today's Nintendo Treehouse: Live stream. The new franchise that the Shantae developer will be tackling is Bakugan, in Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia.
It's not exactly what you might expect from the developer of games like River City Girls, Shantae, and The Mummy: Demastered. Bakugan is a popular toy battling series, where young competitors build up teams of giant monsters to duke it out in Bakugan brawls. You'd be forgiven if you got some serious Pokemon vibes from it because, yeah, it looks kind of like that.
Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 3. It isn't exactly the metroidvania or platformer most would have expected, but for the young kids out there boppin' Bakugans (is that the lingo?), this is probably exciting for them.
This is the latest in a spree of reveals for WayForward. The studio recently revealed that the original Shantae would be getting a Switch port, as well as a Game Boy Color reproduction cart of its notoriously hard-to-find GBC version. Risky's Revenge will also be coming to Switch, rounding out the Shantae collection on the Nintendo handheld. The developer also confirmed it's working on a new project related to last year's stylish brawler River City Girls. Even beyond Bakugan, WayForward certainly has a lot on the way for Nintendo Switch.
