Wipeout Gets a Remaster Collection for PS4, Not a Sequel

Wipeout Omega Collection brings three Wipeout games to PlayStation 4.

Today at the PlayStation Experience 2016, Sony Computer Entertainment announced a semi-revival for futuristic racing series Wipeout! WipEout Omega Collection brings WipEout HD, WipEout Fury, and WipEout 2048 to PlayStation 4 for the first time. All three titles will also be Pro-enabled, running at 60 fps in 4K with high dynamic range (HDR) color support.

The Omega Collection will include Zone, Tournament, Speed Lap, Time Trial, and Single Race modes from WipEout HD; Zone Battle, Eliminator, and Detonator from WipEout Fury; and Career Mode from WipEout 2048. There will be a total of 46 ship models and 26 tracks in the collection, plus an all-new soundtrack.

"With graphics that have been enhanced to take advantage of 4K displays, WipEout has never looked so good - but we haven't just focused on visuals. We'll have an all-new, thumping soundtrack for you to race with, featuring a few classics as well as tracks from the hottest up-and-coming artists. WipEout Omega Collection is a feast for both your eyes and ears," wrote Sony senior producer John McLaughlin on the PlayStation Blog.

WipEout Omega Collection is coming Summer 2017 for PlayStation 4.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
