In celebration of the 5th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Project Red is giving the game away on GOG Galaxy. The catch is you have to own it on another platform, including PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, or Origin), PlayStation 4, or Xbox One. If you own the standard of Game of the Year Editions of The Witcher 3 on those platforms and you link those accounts to GOG Galaxy, the game will be added to your library there. The offer lasts until June 23, 7AM EDT/4AM PDT.
You'll get the same version of The Witcher 3 on GOG Galaxy as you own on the linked platform, so there's no upgrade from standard edition on PS4 to Game of the Year Edition on GOG Galaxy. And even if you own The Witcher: Wild Hunt with all the DLC, you'll still just get the standard edition.
"If you own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt version of the game, you’ll receive the same version on GOG.COM," says the FAQ. "If you have The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY Edition, you’ll receive the GOTY Edition on GOG.COM as well. Only owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY Edition can claim it as part of this event."
Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch edition is not eligible for the offer, since there's no integration between GOG Galaxy and the Nintendo Switch at this point.
GOG.com is a DRM-free online store that's also a part of the CD Projekt Group. GOG Galaxy 2.0 is a new PC app that collects all your games and friends lists across different services in one place. It offers a number of ways to manage your entire library and play all your games, without having to keep track of what service they're on. GOG Galaxy 2.0 is currently still in open beta.
The Witcher series recently blew past 50 million copies sold worldwide, thnaks in part to the success of The Witcher series on Netflix. That series is looking to start production on the second season in the UK, with new restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
