World of Warcraft's New Pet Helps Disaster Relief Efforts

Blizzard tries to help out with a tiny pet.

Blizzard Entertainment has a history of creating special World of Warcraft pets that give to charity, usually released around BlizzCon. It's a win-win for WoW players: you get a shiny new pet and your money goes to a good cause. There have been a number of natural disasters around the world recently, prompting Blizzard to spin up a new pet a bit early.

Shadow the fox is the new pet in question. All proceeds of every Shadow purchase from now until December 31, 2017 go to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Disaster Relief Fund.

"Due to recent natural disasters around the world—and the great needs of those affected—we’ve decided not to wait for BlizzCon 2017 to release this year’s new charity pet. The immediacy of the events, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, flooding in South Asia, and countless other crises, have shown we need to act now," said Blizzard in its announcement.

Proceeds are split evenly between both organizations.

If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
