Xbox Console Exclusive Adventure Call of the Sea Sets Sail Next Month
Come sail away with me.
A new narrative adventure is charting a course for the Xbox and PC in December. Call of the Sea, a puzzle adventure game from developer Out of the Blue, launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on Dec. 8, 2020.
The story of Call of the Sea is set in 1934, as the main character Norah searches for her missing husband. The trail of his expedition leads her to a paradise filled with ancient ruins, and Norah will have to put together the pieces to find out what really happened, possibly discovering something about herself along the way.
Call of the Sea fills an interesting gap in the current launch lineup. Xbox has a handful of next-gen console exclusives, like Yakuza LIke a Dragon, which is on PlayStation 4 but won't come to PlayStation 5 until next March. Others, like Bloober Team's The Medium, were recently delayed. Another platform grab for Microsoft is a good thing.
Call of the Sea also seems like an interesting one to lock down. As a narrative puzzle game that's also coming to Xbox Game Pass and Game Pass for PC, it puts some competition to Sony's eccentric budget-conscious platform exclusives like Bugsnax. It's also got some Firewatch vibes, and not just because Cissy Jones—the voice of Delilah in Firewatch—lends her voice to the lead role.
We'll see how it stacks up in a few weeks. Call of the Sea casts off on Dec. 8, 2020 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and GOG. For more on the adventure in store for Norah, and what an adventure game can do on next-gen, check out our interview with the team from earlier this year.
