Xbox Live Gold's Free Games for June Are a Little Lacking

Microsoft announced the four free games coming to Xbox Live Gold for June. They include some oldies but goodies like Portal, or newer titles like NHL 19 for you sports fans.

The four Games With Gold titles for June 2019 are NHL 2019, Rivals of Aether, Portal, and Earth Defense Force 2017. The games themselves are fine, though its only notable standaout is a game that was released over 10 years ago.

If you still haven't played Portal, Valve's first-person puzzle platformer is one of the greatest puzzle games of all time. (And possibly one of the best games period too.) A sequel was released in 2011, but the first Portal still holds up as a truly exceptional, pure gaming experience. Portal will only be available from June 1 to 15.

NHL 19 is the newest game in EA Sports' NHL hockey sim series. The latest entry adds a new career mode, off-stadium rinks, and other new features, making it one of the most complete hockey sims in the series. NHL 19 will be available from June 1 to 30.

Rivals of Aether and Earth Defense Force 2017 are smaller games, but if you haven't played an Earth Defense Force game yet, they've got quite the cult reputation. Check it out only if you like shooting giant bugs from space. Rivals of Aether will be available from June 16 to July 15, and Earth Defense Force will be available from June 16 to 30.

Like PlayStation Plus and Nintendo Switch Online, Xbox Live Gold members get a set of free games each month. Xbox Live Gold's free games do sometimes come with time restrictions, so you'll need to add the games you want to your library quick lest they disappear.

You can still pick up some of May's Games With Gold like Marooners and The Golf Club 2.
