There may not be an E3 this summer, but that doesn't mean there won't be any game demos. Announced today, Xbox is partnering with Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest to host a demo event on Xbox One, featuring upcoming and unreleased Xbox games.
Revealed in an Xbox blog post, the event will run from July 21 to 27 and feature more than 60 brand-new game demos. These demos will only be on the Xbox Dashboard for a week, so make sure to grab them early.
While the full list is not set just yet, Microsoft did tease a few games that are already confirmed. Here's the list:
- Cris Tales
- Destroy All Humans!
- The Vale: Shadow of the Crown
- Raji: An Ancient Epic
- Welcome to Elk
There will be more on the way too, as Xbox estimates the number will be "somewhere between 75 and 100 when the dust settles." But it also stresses that these are not "normal" game demos, like you might see after a game has launched and are plucked from the final version. These demos will be closer to a show floor or press demo, which means these are early builds that will evolve and be polished over time. Basically, meter your expectations for how polished these will be, much like any other show floor demo situation.
This event seems to line up neatly with rumored dates for the Xbox July showcase, which is set to reveal first-party games for the Xbox Series X. Considering the relatively quiet month Xbox had in June, this could be Microsoft's big swing to regain some of the mainstream mindshare following Sony's PS5 blowout. I'm just happy about the returned prevalence of early-look demos, as this summer has been chock-full of events featuring demos that have put some wonderful indie games on my radar.
