Back in July, Sega revealed that the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the long-running Yakuza series, would be announcing multiple new projects in a live event on August 26. We're still a few days ahead of that event, but one of those projects has been accidentally revealed.
Folks over at NeoGAF noticed that Ryu Ga Gotoku Kiwami 2 (Yakuza Kiwami 2) has appeared in a listing on the Taiwanese PlayStation Store. The game has a listed release date of December 7, 2017. While Yakuza Kiwami used the Yakuza 0 engine as its basis, a rough Google Translate of the Yakuza Kiwami 2 mentions the Dragon Engine, which is the new engine powering Yakuza 6: Song of Life.
Yakuza series director Toshihiro Nagoshi has already confirmed that there will be further games in the Yakuza series, but they won't be starring series lead Kazuma Kiryu. Nagoshi said they'd be talking about what's next soon.
"I'm already working on the next title. In the not too distant future... I think there will be an opportunity to talk about the next game's development in a relatively early stage," Nagoshi said.
We'll certainly hear more about Yakuza Kiwami 2 and further projects from the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio this weekend. Yakuza Kiwami will be out on PlayStation 4 in the United States on August 29, 2017 and you can read our review right here. North America will be getting Yakuza 6: Song of Life on March 20, 2018.
