Yakuza Kiwami Brings More Yakuza West on August 29

The remake of the first Yakuza will get its time to shine this summer.

Sega announced today that Yakuza Kiwami is coming to PlayStation 4 in the Americas and Europe on August 29! The title is a remake of the very first Yakuza game, which was released in 2005 on PlayStation 2. Yakuza Kiwami will cost $29.99 physically and digitally.

Yakuza Kiwami has been rebuilt from the ground-up for PlayStation 4, with new models and textures for 1080p resolution. The audio has been re-recorded by the original Japanese cast, and the game features only Japanese audio this time around. Yakuza 0's combat engine has been brought over, in place of the original's fight system. There's more side stories and more diversions to keep you exploring. And then there's Majima Everywhere.

"This is literally the best thing ever. Majima, the one-eyed, mad-as-a-hatter psychopath of the Yakuza series takes on the role of the protagonist's sworn nemesis. And to punctuate that in Kiwami, there's a new system where he pops out of the most random of places for impromptu encounters. I'm talking 'pops out of a manhole' levels of ridiculous, which is what makes it so great," said Sega back in December.

Sega also went in and added 30 minutes of additional story cutscenes to flesh out the characters and tied the game to the recently-released Yakuza 0.

Sega has launched the Yakuza Experience website, with a full timeline that will take players from Yakuza 0 to Yakuza Kiwami, and even to the upcoming Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, coming in early 2018.
