The next installment of the Yakuza franchise has set a month for launch. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will arrive in the West this November, and alongside its current-gen and PC offerings, both next-gen consoles will get an upgrade path as well.
In a press release today, Sega confirms that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will launch in November 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and Windows 10. As previously confirmed, the new Yakuza will be a day-one title for the Xbox Series X on the day that console launches, and it will be a part of Xbox's Smart Delivery next-gen upgrade program. But today Sega is also announcing that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will come to PlayStation 5 "at a later date," and it will have an upgrade path of its own as well.
Details on what that entails will come at a later date, but at least for console players, this means there will be a next-gen option for them on either side of the proverbial aisle. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will have a number of pre-order options available, including a steelbook edition and several different DLC packs, with one featuring costumes inspired by "Legends" like Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima.
Sega also announced the English voice cast for Yakuza: Like a Dragon today, and while that's normally not something that garners my attention-I don't think I've ever played a Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio game in English-one casting did catch my eye. Famous Star Trek actor George Takei will feature in the English cast for Yakuza: Like a Dragon as Masumi Arakawa, a major player in the game's story. Kaiji Tang will play protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, and the cast also features Andrew Morgado, Greg Chun, and Elizabeth Maxwell.
It looks like the recent rating of Yakuza: Like a Dragon was actually an indicator of the upcoming launch, as well as its content (I'm still wondering what an "Extreme Bondage Attack" even is). Though the Yakuza RPG has been out in Japan for a while now, it won't be long until Western players can finally dive into this new Yakuza experience.
