Shenmue fans, rejoice. Koch Media has announced that forklifts, that's right forklifts, are coming back for Shenmue 3. Pack it up, game of the year is here.
Shenmue 3 is the long-awaited sequel to Yu Suzuki's slice-of-life action-adventure. The forklift was part of a minigame in the first Shenmue, when Ryo Hazuki had to take on some part-time jobs to scrounge up cash for his adventure. The forklift job was just one popular minigame, helped by a catchy theme song.
The forklift became something of a proto-meme; Ryo can even drive one as part of his appearance in Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. Suzuki even tweeted a photo of a forklift as a teaser for Shenmue 3. Basically, it's become a kind of mascot for the series in a weird way.
Koch Media's video game publishing division, Deep Silver, is publishing Shenmue 3. The company posted an official photo of Ryo in the forklift today, in glorious high-definition. Just get a look at those... lifters? Regardless, the forklift means that Shenmue 3 will be keeping with series tradition and will have part-time jobs. We knew this already, but now we know forklift driving will be making a welcome return too.
Shenmue 3 is coming out on August 27, 2019 for PS4 and PC.
