You can Play Sea of Thieves Now, Ahead of Official Release Date

Can't wait to start your pirate fantasy? You don't have to.

According to Rare's official website for Sea of Thieves, we should see a gradual roll-out of the game. It starts with Australia and New Zealand, spreads across Asia and Europe, then concludes in North and South America. That's a grand schedule—for a game about following the rules. Sea of Thieves needs a little anarchy worthy of its protagonists, so its release schedule has seemingly been thrown into the wind. It's live now for most territories, if not all of them.

There are already several people across several earthly regions playing the game and communicating about it on Resetera. Hirun Cryer, one of our guide chaps, is based in Britain and he's been able to access the game for a while. Finally, our own Mike Williams did a test and discovered that he, too, can roam the seas.

You've heard of "Build-a-Bear," now you can "Build-a-Seadog."

Weigh anchor! Trim the sails! And all that jazz! Consult our hints, tips, and tricks about Sea of Thieves, including how to customize your ship and how to start your first quest. Don't forget to download that Day One patch, either. It's something else.

Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. See our terms & conditions.
