You're Not Dreaming, a Next-Gen Neo Geo Is Coming From SNK

You're Not Dreaming, a Next-Gen Neo Geo Is Coming From SNK

I'm still pinching myself, though.

Retro throwback consoles are thriving, but it seems that SNK is looking to push things a bit further. The company announced that a "next-gen" Neo Geo piece of hardware is coming after the launch of the Neo Geo Mini.

Posted to SNK's Twitter, the company says the hardware will have a modern design and can link to the Neo Geo Mini. There isn't much more info beyond that, or when we could possibly see more.

The Neo Geo Mini packed 40 games into one tiny arcade cabinet, which could output to a TV or be played using its tiny screen, stick, and buttons. It launched last year and seemed a cute but imperfect throwback box.

Whatever this new Neo Geo could be, either an emulator or a new platform, isn't entirely clear. But for arcade fanatics and fighting game aficionados, this should have your interest piqued, though I'm keeping my expectations within the realm of reason. We'll keep our eyes out for more info on whatever SNK is cooking up for its "next-gen" Neo Geo.
