Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana Is Getting a Switch Release This Summer

NIS America is bringing the Falcom adventure to Nintendo's platform.

News by Mike Williams, .

If you've been thinking of picking up Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, or PC, NIS America is making the decision a little bit more complicated. At the Nintendo Direct Mini, Nintendo revealed that Ys VIII will be coming to Nintendo Switch this summer.

"Adol awakens shipwrecked and stranded on a cursed island. There, he and the other shipwrecked passengers he rescues form a village to challenge fearsome beasts and mysterious ruins on the isolated island. Amidst this, Adol begins to dream of a mysterious blue-haired maiden living in an unknown world," says the game's synopsis on the official Nintendo eShop page.

Nadia found an adventure worth playing in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. In fact, it was good enough to find a spot on her Top 10 list for 2017.

"If you find Ys games too calm, too safe, or too boring, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana for the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC isn't a worthwhile purchase. If you're an Ys fan, however, or if you've been meaning to get into the series, it's a delightful tropical diversion. This 3D sword-swinger doesn't stray far from Falcom's established formula, but that doesn't mean you won't have fun," she wrote previously about the game.

I'm all in on this! Ys makes so much sense on Switch. I'm glad Falcom changed their position on the console.

This was one of the highlights of the Direct, but like other ports, how will it run on NS? I have regretted all of my purchases of third-party 3D games. They simply don't run well on NS.

I've wanted to get into Ys for a long time, and this got great reviews. I'd been looking at it on Steam this morning, so now I'll wait and get the Switch version.

Glad more people get a chance to play Ys, hope the port is decent. Is it getting a port in Japan? It would be unfortunate if this only happened outside their home market.

I keep meaning to give the Ys series a go (I've only ever played Ys Book I & II on the Wii's Virtual Console), so this seems like as perfect an opportunity as ever.

@themblan it debuted on Vita so shouldn't be too taxing for the Switch. Hopefully it will have the enhanced PS4 content too. At least it should have the new translation by default too. Also a good sign that Falcom may move their handheld stuff to Switch once Vita is too far gone.

@TheWildCard It is, but strangely it's being published/handled by NIS in Japan as well, not just the west. I guess maybe they ported it? I don't know if that means anything for any titles beyond Ys VIII (probably not), but maybe they're testing the waters and letting another company go to bat for them to do so.
