Ys 8 Out Today on PC With Free Digital Bonuses and Revised Localization

The PS4 already received the revised localization as a patch in January.

Ys 8: Lacrimosa of DANA is out today on PC through Steam and GOG. To celebrate, NIS America is including a suite of digital goods for free for the first week of sales. Don't worry, the PC version is shipping with the updated localization that was patched into the game earlier this year.

Ys 8 is the latest in the long-running JRPG Ys franchise. In a press release, NIS America says that as a thank you to fans for their support, the following digital rewards will be included with Steam and GOG copies of Ys 8 for the first week of sales:

  • Adol's Adventure Essential DLC ("Silver Armor" and "Adventurer's Clothes" Costumes)
  • Digital Mini Art Book
  • Digital Soundtrack Sampler
  • Laxia's "Etrian Scholar" Costume

This is presumably a way to make-up for the numerous delays the PC version of the game has suffered. The most recent delay pushed-back Ys 8's January 30, 2018 release date due to poor performance and framerate. Before that Ys 8 was delayed as a result of the localization error that plagued the original release of the game.

NIS America confirmed that Ys 8 on PC features the new, updated localization for the game. Last year, NIS America President Takura Yamashita made a public apology for the localization for Ys 8 that fans said were of poor quality. NIS America promised to re-edit, re-translate, and if needed re-do the voiceover for the game until the quality met fans' expectations.

The updated localization went live in January of this year for the PS4 and Vita, but the revisions ship with the PC version without the need to patch the game. For further reading, you can check out our impressions which say that Ys 8 is as good as any for fans new and old.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said Ys 8 was out on the Switch. The Switch version comes out in June.
