Speedrunning The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in under an hour is the new hotness in the speedrunning community, but that doesn't mean classic challenges are being abandoned.
Yesterday, for example, a new record was set for a Zelda game that may still be more beloved than Breath of the Wild: Ocarina of Time. The previous speed record of 17 minutes and 47 seconds, set in May of 2015 by a runner named skater82297, was surpassed yesterday by a runner named Torje. Torje finished the game in 17 minutes and 9 seconds.
Watching Torje work is pretty fascinating; he takes advantage of numerous glitches to clip through walls (plus he does a whole lot of crab-walking, rolling, and back-flipping). Surprisingly, the first half of his run is a bit sloppy, and he really "steps it up" (to quote another speedrunner, Sonic the Hedgehog) in the second half. In other words, Torje will likely attempt to beat his own best time sooner than later.
