Zombies May Be Appearing in Red Dead Online, If It's Not a Glitch

Undead nightmare part two, or just another quirky bug?

The world of Red Dead Redemption 2, both online and off, is a wild west where just about anything can happen, intentional or not. So while recent discoveries of zombie-like NPCs has some speculating about a possible upcoming undead event, others are skeptical its anything more than a glitch in the system.

The most compelling evidence in the pro-zombie case comes from recent Red Dead Online screenshots like these, from Reddit users u/groats_active and u/xXVoluntaryeyeXx, showing dead bodies with glowing eyes and pale, haunting features. One player even says they found one of these glowing-eyed corpses and shot it, causing it to blink and move its mouth. Others claim to hear groans and other noises.

Hmmmm. Nope. Do not like this. | u/groats_active, Rockstar

It could indicate a coming event; October and Halloween aren't too far off, and Red Dead Redemption 1 already had one undead expansion pack. But not only is it a little unlikely Red Dead Redemption 2's single-player would ever get the same treatment, the odd quirks of Red Dead itself make it hard to know whether these creepy corpses are intentional or not.

Players have found supposed "zombies" in not just Online, but the single-player campaign of Red Dead Redemption 2. These usually appear to be simple glitches, much like the inexplicable pile of dead horses that appeared in Red Dead Online for a while.

It's exciting to think about, but probably a good idea to keep your expectations in check. While a seasonal event featuring the walking dead could make for some exciting Red Dead Online action, the online western just rolled out a major update adding several professions and new quest lines for players. I'd be pleasantly surprised if anything more is in store for the near future.
