Super Mario World. It's the first game that I ever felt I was good enough at to just play around and experiment. Like I could explore all kinds of dangerous and often fatal paths and possibilities without the fear of ending in a game over. Even after years of not touching it, I know that the feel of playing Mario World is committed to some memory bank that I can always tap back into.

It's good to see some hopeful attitudes about the sea change. That style of plugging in new licenses to a set formula seemed destined for diminishing returns, even with their consistently strong writing. A new engine that allows for some gameplay variety (and maybe a toned back release schedule) would go a long way in drawing back some of that lapsed interest.

As always, hope those laid off find good opportunities and those still there see less crunching.

This is all well and good, but the real question is whether or not Woolies Strike Back is the fastest selling Bubsy game of all time. Answer me that!

@AndreasStalin You could simply ask for more details about the Vita version's technical aspects, rather than declare the reviewer lazy for not intuiting what specifically you wanted to know about them. Just saying.

I'm considering checking this out regardless. The academic framing sounds intriguing, and I could go for some mindless hack and slash to podcasts. I wonder if it has a demo, or would show up at Redbox.

I'm trying to figure out what irks me about things like this. I love the fandom silliness that branches out from a game or its media output. It always starts so creative and light-hearted.

Then like, the second that it grows big enough for the brand's corporate and social media messaging to 'correct the record', the fun is gone. I really wish we could just let a game's creators be creative in their way, let the fandoms do their wackiness with it, and keep a clean separation between the two.

tldr; Brand engagement was a mistake

PC game community is weird. Like, a special proprietary brand of weird from the already weird gaming community. It's like this weird mix of exclusion, entitlement, and socialism.

As a side note, it really surprises me that FF7: Crisis Core is only available via original PSP UMD. It's never been on Playstation Network, nor ever ported anywhere else. Especially given how much effort Square Enix put into bringing FF Type Zero to console and revisiting everything that's ever bore the Kingdom Hearts name, Crisis Core is such an unfortunate omission.

I'm curious what those game carts are. Some kind of proprietary flash memory cards?

I dabbled some more with Shovel Knight's Plague of Shadows on a flight to Baltimore over the weekend. I'm having a rough time getting good with Plague Knights explodey jump that has led me into many a pit. Persistence did not pay off in this case as Spectre Knight struck me down several times right up until I had to de-plane. I suppose my latest death came at the sharp end of his scythe.
