Well... If I can dream freely and without ANY considerations for what is realistic:

Panzer Dragoon (1, Zwei, Saga) Any of them really!

    Vagrant Story

    Parasite Eve

    MDK (The original)

    Ridge Racer Type 4

    Burning Rangers

    Wave Race 64

    Mega Man Legends 1-2

There are so many great games that doesn't exist in a good, playable form right now. Any of these would be a tremendous service to todays library. :)

What is wrong with Square?! Where the rest of the entertainment industry is mining gold on people's nostalgia, they treat their classic titles like throw away garbage and give us one sub-par port or "remake" after another. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana are incredibly beloved, classic titles. A corporation with some brains and foresight would turn those cherished properties into surefire profit machines. But here we are. How they manage their catalogue is disrespectful to the brands, the people that made them, and most of all the fans.

Secret of Mana 2 had maybe the most gorgeous pixel art on the SNES. It looks phenomenal to this day. I would hate a polygon version (at least one as cheap looking as the recent remakes) .

    Port the original!

While Starfox 64 is wonderful, the original has an epic interstellar quality the sequel never quite captured. The phenomenal and rousing soundtrack is a big part obviously, but it’s also the more muted blue and grey color palette, not to mention the packaging artwork with the realistic animal puppets and Arwings. It just ends up with a more mature look somehow. As if the original wanted to be grand like StarWars while the N64 version aimed at a friendlier Thunderbirds. I hope Nintendo figures out what to do with Starfox, as Its such a lovable concept.. But I wouldn’t mind if they looked past Starfox 64, and went back to the flavor that made the original something truly special. With all respect to Koji Kondo, get Hirasawa’s music back too!

I personally think Caty is being a little harsh towards the new game. The remaster does look very pretty and atmospheric. By any account it is a gorgeous 2018 game.

It is clear however that the color palette did change quite a bit in the remaster. Having done the previous HD conversion Blue Point is obviously very familiar with Shadow's specific look. It seems as though they wanted to put their own spin on the lighting.

I personally prefer the colors of the original. The pale white light and the interplay between pink skies and gray and blue surroundings. The old edition has a very specific palette unlike any other game, but in this remaster the environments sport a more uniform yellowish tint. The lighting is done very well, but perhaps in a more conventional western style. It's like a western cinematographer shot the movie instead using similar actors and sets. The original Shadow has a look that probably only a Japanese art director would have arrived at.

I was hoping that the game would provide a more faithful color filter for the mega purists. But we can just play the prevous HD remaster instead. Still, it's a very impressive game.

@nadiaoxford And I honestly think that "standard JRPG stuff" is still pretty damn bad. I would think a useful tool for combating sexist character designs is to repeatedly call it out on well read sites such as these. Monolith Soft/Nintendo is very likely to keep an eye on reviews.

@nadiaoxford So these anime/JRPG tropes are so ingrained at this point that it's not even worth mentioning anymore? It's just par for the course since it's Japanese...? I'd argue that such aesthetic choices tend to impact the storytelling and overall appeal of the game and is at least worth mentioning in a review. As for my crude anatomy description... Come now, if 40+ hours of space thongs and lingerie doesn't even register, why start being offended now?

Odd that you didn't mention the tiring character designs.
Pyra looks so dumb with her balloon tits and sci-fi thong. It's incredibly unappealing.

    There's has been several.
The original Ridge Racer arcade. First 3D game I had seen with textures. To my delirious eye I thought it looked photo real.

I remember thinking that certain caves of Banjo Kazooie embarrassingly enough were as good as it was going to get.

Scud Race made a huge impression on me. More polygons and less jaginess gave a smoother, more pre-rendered look than the harsher, angular PlayStation 1 style graphics I were used to.

I also must mention Soul Calibur.. what a jump! there I was, used to my Nintendo 64. My mother had purchased a Dreamcast for my kid brother's birthday, while I had payed zero attention to the machine. Clueless I booted up Soul and next thing you know Astaroths damn axe falls from above and shatters my brain. A good damn Naomi arcade board in my own home. Will never again see such a mega leap in console graphics, that feels certain.
