@pdubb I mean, Yennefer is like the long lost love or whatever, even if he spent most of the game series with Triss. (Also Yen is the canonical romance in the novels.)

@WiIIyTheAntelope To be fair, I never ran into any game breaking bugs as bad as the ones you mentioned, nor had to even use that option. The bugs more just made me laugh (like a zombie popping into existence) and never like made me want to rage quit and scorch the Earth. I also played on Xbox One S (I've heard the PC version is even smoother, if that counts for anything.)

@Flipsider99 I super agree with you on zombies being played out (I went into this expecting to feel indifferent about it), and I'd love to see this formula laid over... something without zombies and a post-apocalypse. But it's management sim man, that doesn't make it convoluted. It's either your cup of tea or it ain't. As someone who loves a good management sim (whether it's Harvest Moon or even a deep life sim like Princess Maker 2), this really hit for me and wasn't impenetrable like the last game.

@hiptanaka i'm aware... it was a joke... (immersive sim is a dumbass name for a subgenre, so i goof on it at every turn)

@iamleyeti@yuberus I'm an idiot who was also up for like 21 hours straight yesterday traveling/attending/writing up this event, so I've edited to clarify above. Apologies for the slip-up!

@ViewtifulJC lol, I'd say this entire series is a prestige reboot, it's nothing new with this one. I think I actually referenced this series as one of the examples. The new thing is that on some level, it's trying to actually engage with the consequences of stealing artifacts of ancient cultures, which is more than most adventure games of this genre could say. If you recall in the article, I don't blanket diss prestige-type things, it's just that some showboat the idea of depth without actually having anything beyond the surface level, and heck, that could very well be this game too! or not! I'm holding final judgment til I see the final game. I even say in this that the demo was mostly pretty dull and did not play to the Tomb Raider games' strengths, which I always found to be its combat and not its storytelling.

@ChairmanYang Personally, I didn't find the horror elements of SOMA to be particularly good, though it is excellent on a thematic/atmospheric level. Amnesia remains highly influential for modern horror games as a whole, and that's why it landed on this initial list.

@donkeyintheforest I wouldn't necessarily put it in the same camp as that—just look at any movie or television coverage, they typically use the images provided by the publisher. The fact is, we're a small team of five people, and we don't have time to pop a game open and take custom screenshots for every story we write. I wish it were otherwise true. As I said, if I'm playing a game actively with the intent to write an article on it (I wasn't originally scheduled to do anything on GoW; I got it at launch out of my own pocket), I usually take screenshots with that exact intention.

@donkeyintheforest It's usually best practice to use "official" screenshots, as they're usually composed well and are high quality. Usually when I'm reviewing something, I'll take screenshots as I play and include those in the published review. If I'm playing something more leisurely, like I did with this since I wasn't on the review grind, I typically don't really take screenshots all that much (plus the photo mode's not in yet.) All the screenshots I took of God of War have spoilery content, which is why I didn't include them in this particular article.

@ericspratling56 I didn't play Far Cry 5 and don't really have immediate plans to as I didn't enjoy it when I played it at demo events before its release (the AI felt really dumb and the stealth wasn't really good, which is how I primarily played FC3 and FC4 sooo), but the big criticism I saw wasn't that the game wasn't that the game wasn't what you're assuming critics "wanted" it to be like, but that it tried to be a super silly and super serious game at the same time and didn't balance the two tones as well as, say, Wolfenstein 2 (or arguably even past Far Cry entries). Mike even wrote a good article about this problem.
