@sevenpains Grave of the Fireflies and Only Yesterday are two of my favorite films ever, so hearing of his passing last week hit pretty hard actually. ):

@riderkicker Yeah I'm holding my reservations on it until there's more episodes out, since that's when the adaptation will get a little tricky. But I agree and definitely think P5 benefits because of its structure way more than P3 or P4, so fingers crossed that it ends up being good!

@Iambiz I'm a dumb dumb and didn't even think to ask that, unfortunately. ;-; (This was a demo where I basically chimed in with questions rather than a traditional sit down interview.) I'd imagine probably not since the console versions of Pillars 2 aren't releasing until Q4 2018, but who knows, maybe it'll be possible! At the very least, I was told that the game will begin with a survey thingy for new players who didn't play the prior game, so they can still feel impact on the game's world through choices they may have made in the other game.

@FirLocke This is honestly great to hear. Hope it finally grabs me too.

As our resident superfan of the first game and all its Ghibli wonder, I'm honestly finding Ni No Kuni 2 to be a huge disappointment. (You can hear me ramble on about it when the latest episode of The USgamer Podcast is up later today, lol.) I'm not connecting with any of the characters like I did with Oliver (I've even joked about naming a pet or a kid after him, lmao). The intro is sooo rushed (like Roland seems pretty down to be in this fantasy world with almost zero conflict?). The game takes about five or so hours to finally get to an interesting town (the first areas you really explore are just bland corridors, the olive-hued overworld, and then the blah canyon town and area), whereas the first game had Motortown, Ding Dong Dell, and other beautiful locales to explore that showed off the superb art direction basically right away. The overworld, compared to the bright, lushness of the first game's, is so strikingly different from NNK2's core art style that I find it super distracting (especially with those longer sequences where you're directing armies on it). The combat might be a step-up from the familiars system of the first game, but I'm finding it too easy. I haven't even died yet, and I'm nearly 10 hours deep.

Regardless, I'm still gonna keep playing it because I'm an idiot; but man, as someone who considers the first game one of her favorite JRPGs ever, it's a huge bummer for me at every turn. I hope it gets better. ):

@Flipsider99 The structure of the game elevates it and makes it enjoyable? That's why. Even movies and TV shows sometimes have bad stories that are elevated by sheer direction, which is just how this was. (Like a solid campy horror movie would be a good example of this.) There are other games with lackluster core stories that rise above it through other elements, just as this game has. A game usually has a lot more going on than a movie or tv show, which is kinda my point. And honestly, this is a super rare case of a narrative-driven game lacking in the actual compelling story department (its sole goal contrary to most games, essentially), and yet it *still* manages to rise above its faults because of the unique way you engage with it and share the experience with another player. The interactions you share with your companion and how the game flips it throughout the campaign is what makes A Way Out a compelling adventure game.

@Johnny-Law Researching this article was literally the first time I've ever heard of Hughes. The only sport I follow is basketball. But sorry I guess for not being an all-knowing consumer of sports!

@Johnny-Law Grimes is a massively popular musician (in pop, producing, and song writing for major pop stars) and her top music video on YouTube has 50 million views, but lol ok at "rando techno DJ." I will add Hughes' name in, as I neglected to on accident.

Also what's the hot take here? That PUBG and Fortnite are in direct competition? That's not a take, that's... fact.
