Oddly enough, it wasn't the internet that killed Toys R Us, but rather people doing debt-leveraged takeover of the chain. The sales at Toys R Us remained relatively stable in the last 13 years, it just wasn't enough to service the debt from the group that took over the company. Same thing that's happening in slow-motion to Sears.

Personally, I went to Toys R Us only once when I was a kid, since there weren't any in 250 miles of where I lived. I bought Crystalis there though, which was a fairly influential game when I was a kid. They opened one up ~100 miles from me, but that was when I was older. My wife worked there for a Christmas or two after I moved to the same town it was in. I bought the Arc the Lad Collection and a handful of other games from them when I was older.

I want them to fix their networking, try not to drastically change things further, and just make modest improvements instead of big sweeping changes.

PS4/Xbox1/Switch is the first generation of home consoles where everyone is on one of the main two mainstream processor platforms, with very uniform controls and only 1 screen each. If they all stick to their current processor architectures, then BC should be simple.

They absolutely need to break forward compatibility to progress though. At some point, they will have to make it so games made for the new console will no longer work on the old one else they'll be stuck to the old baseline forever.

I'd be OK if they delayed the PS5 to 2021 or 2022, but I think we'll probably end up seeing it in 2020. (Could be as early as 2019, but I doubt it.) That would match the delay between the PS3 and PS4 generations. Xbox 1's successor will probably be a teensy bit later, but only because the Xbox One X came out a year after the PS4 Pro. I'm thinking MS will do another refresh in 2020 or 2021.

Someone pointed out to me in a screenshot from the original SNES version of the game, there's the same tiling errors in the trees there as well, but because it's so low resolution it's harder to spot it.

PS3 probably. For the reason stated above. Best mix of old and new games. All kinds of the best games from many different platforms have all been released for the PS3. PS4's great too, but I have a much smaller backlog on that system. Runner up would be Linux or Vita, since I have tons of games for them as well. (Windows and PS4 are my 4th and 5th largest backlogs.)

@TheWildCard I decided to postpone the after story for a few months, so I'm not burned out on the game when I play it.

Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Despite being made largely of recycled Trails of Cold Steel bits, it's pretty fun. Currently on the likely inaccurately named "Final" chapter.

Art isn't everything. Controls and gameplay wise, Mario Odyssey is way better than Galaxy. I just played Galaxy for the first time back in December and found it a bit lacking in the controls department.

@link6616 Yeah, first time playing Loom. Slowly working through the old adventure games I missed the first time around. It was interesting, but there was quite the cliff hanger with no resolution.

Also, forgot to mention that I've preordered Alliance Alive for the 3DS, and will have a brand new game to play in just a couple months.

As for most of the USGamer staff not playing the 3DS anymore, that's understandable, reviewers are usually looking forward and playing new games for their job, rather than working through a huge backlog of games like I do. The 3DS still has about 34 games on my backlog, with an estimated 1083 hours of playtime, so it'll be a long time before I clear them all out.

I don't replay games much either, but there's still a lot unfinished.

(Don't get me started on my 300+ game Vita backlog... -_- )

If you add up all the hours between 3DS and DS games last year, the 3DSXL was my 3rd most played console. It trailed a lot behind the PS4 and PSVita, but it was more than double the playtime of my Switch, which only managed 6th place on my list. PS3 was 4th, Wii U was 5th (Because of Zelda: BOTW on Wii U.) It's not unusual for me to not play a brand new console as much as the others, because usually they have a much thinner library of games, and aside from Super Mario Odyssey, Picross S, and Cave Story+, none of the games have grabbed me much.

This year so far, it's Wii U, PS4, Switch, Linux, 3DS, Vita, PS2. The middle 4 consoles are all within a couple hours of each other, so the rankings don't amount to much. I'll probably play an hour on the 3DS tonight and push it all the way to 3rd place on the list. Playing 5 hours of PS4 today pushed it from 6th up to 2nd place, and it will probably reclaim the #1 slot before the end of the month because I'm working on Tokyo Xanadu eX+.
