I just don't see the grey/brown/monotone argument as the original game, along with Ico, has an extremely limited colour palette. Moss green and beige for days. It wouldn't work at this level of fidelity on PS4. As you add detail you also have to add colour.

Looking for a game to recreate the feeling you had when you were younger is always a tricky proposition. From that mindset, assessing a game on its own merits becomes a lot harder.

I would buy anything for Switch...
    ...but I won't buy that.

The touch controls on DS were imprecise to begin with - imagine trying to do it with a fat finger instead of a stylus - it'd be unplayable.

I'd never find the time to play FIFA on the big screen but portable is another story. I just may pick this up.

Probably the last physical 3DS game I'll buy - a fantastic way to go out.

This looks exponentially worse than the original's gorgeous pixel art; totally indistinguishable from many generic JRPG mobile games. Sigh.

Solid list -- Sonic 2 is correctly the best (well, besides Sonic Mania) -- but the exclusion of the most popular 8-bit Sonic game, Sonic The Hedgehog for Game Gear and Master System, is an odd choice because it should have easily made the top ten. Sonic 2 for Game Gear on the other hand is hot trash on the level of Triple Trouble and Chaos.

It's also worth mentioning that Sonic Pocket Adventure on Neo Geo Pocket Color is a precursor to the Sonic Advance series featuring classic levels and is also better than most of the games on this list.

@SIGGYZtar Sony didn't give a cent towards the development, they're only promoting it in the same way they do a lot of their console exclusives: marketing. Deep Silver seem to be picking up SEGA's slack in a few regions so this deal makes sense.

Technically there was no publisher for the PS4 version before this point, and they would've needed the cash to finish the project seems as though it was delayed for 12 months (and the budget was tiny to begin with).

So glad the flagship cast is back!

As the resident Shenmue fan, I have to say that Mike did a good job of communicating what makes Shenmue special, but comparing the characters in Shenmue to those in Yakuza isn't exactly apples to apples. Both games have wildly different narrative styles and tell their stories in very different ways. There's no doubt Kiryu and co are deeper characters, but there's a heavy reliance on extremely long and frequent cut-scenes to flesh those characters out, while Shenmue is much more minimal. Yakuza is thick with twists and turns like the most melodramatic crime drama imaginable, whereas Shenmue has more of a martial arts movie-type plot. They're very different things, both good in their own way.

I will always prefer the Shenmue games to Yakuza because, while there are similarities, Shenmue is a contemplative exploration and investigation game. Yakuza is a cracking skulls and follow-the-map-marker game. They're completely different at their core. I love Yakuza but Shenmue is something wholly unique.
