I definitely liked Corruption more than Echoes, but not nearly as much as the original. I remember the opening chapters dialogue and setup was a little silly and made me think about the universe Samus inhabited more than I cared to. A series that once felt, lonely, mysterious and ominous now kind of felt like pulpy, comic book superhero schlock. I guess Hunters really started down that path though. But, it was all in service to a plot that did at least make sense and drive out the gameplay. It's been quite a while so I would like to come back to it and try it out again. Maybe even all three games.

Trilogy was a fantastic idea and one of those rare, wonderful things that happens for fans like once in a lifetime. Playing the first Prime with motion controls is almost like playing a whole new game. And it came in cool steel case with a neat, transparent plastic sleeve. Best thing I ever bought for the Wii.Edited 4 times. Last edited September 2017 by Unknown

Hmm... yup, I'm picking this up. Probably tonight. And maybe VII while I'm at it.
Already have it on Steam but I much prefer my couch and my 50 inch and of course a handy dandy DS4 instead of a wired 360 controller. Way better.

This is a great question. Many good picks here in the comments. It's almost impossible for me not to say Super Metroid or A Link to the Past right off the bat. Those are 2 games that future generations must have access to. If I had to pick just 1 it would be Super Metroid, without a doubt.

However, from a purely academic perspective it would be interesting to ask people to play The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, and Metroid on the NES. You have 3 games that kind of set out to do the same thing and all have a non-linear structure, but all went in radically different directions influencing future games for decades to come.

I've gotten off the Nintendo supply merry-go-round. After the NES Classic I finally accepted what has been pretty evident for the last decade or so: Nintendo doesn't care about its consumers or fanbase. It's just that simple. So I find it difficult to care about the Big N any more.

Maybe I'll pick up a used Switch sometime in the middle or end of the console's life. Idk, maybe not. Sadly after 30 years of being an avid and loyal fan nowadays all they can get out of me is an apathetic "meh".

Meh, this does sound pretty dumb. There is nothing in any of the books or lore that suggest Shelob or Ungoliant ever took any form other than that of giant spiders. Shelob was an ancient creature just allowed to exist in the dark caverns of Cirith Ungol b/c she was in fact evil. Ungoliant allied with Morgoth for gods sake, and Morgoth essentially created Sauron. There's really no grey area. She is an evil, horrible, gigantic spider monster.

Some of my fondest gaming memories are of my first play-through of Secret of Mana. In fact I think that game is responsible for my long love affair with JRPGs. FF VI and Chrono Trigger just sealed the deal. Despite its bugs and insane difficulty spikes I still think this game is a near masterpiece. Almost nothing quite as creative and inspired as Mana comes out of Japan any more. And the game has had major influences on action RPGs and JRPGs in general.

I will agree with the ridiculous tiger battle. Actually, all of the boss fights in this game were pretty goddamn tough. But that tiger... no joke that fight basically boils down to luck. So, so worth it though.

This game is and always will be my favorite LoZ title. I'm pretty sure I got an SNES to play this game specifically. I still have my original SNES cart, and I have digital copies on my Wii, Wii U, 3DS, and my PC. Yeah, I'm a little obsessed with this game.

@catymcc Well, luckily I've never had that kind of experience in my professional life. I've definitely been in situations where I was expected to work tons and tons of overtime or pretty much lose my job, but I was fairly compensated. Also, my company has a really great (paid) internship program, so I don't see firsthand what some of this exploitation looks like. My main point was if a person is lucky enough to go to college and enter the workforce in some kind of white collar job they already have a massive leg up on the millions and millions of working poor that would probably trade places with them in a heartbeat, unpaid internship or no. Many shades, sure, but it really helps one to recognize how fortunate they are or people start throwing around words like "privileged" and "entitled". Ya know?Edited July 2017 by Unknown

Hmm... I'm pretty uncomfortable calling internships and entry-level white collar jobs "exploitation". Or even service industry jobs. You can always just say "No" and GTHO of there, or better yet stand up for yourself (which it sounds like Caty did in her case). I mean I always have, and have only been cheated a few times in my life. I've done everything from washing dishes to laying stone in 100 degree heat to bussing tables. You are almost always asked to do things no one else wants to do for little pay when you're the "bottom rung". That's just kind of how society has always organized its labor.

Exploitation is like paying impoverished children pennies a day to clean a sweat shop, or holding an immigrants papers and forcing them into indentured servitude. It's not "I don't like working at Starbucks so I guess I have to put up with this unpaid internship for 6 months". My entry-level IT job amounted to doing other peoples reports and allowing them to take credit for them. Now over a decade later I am highly skilled and well compensated. I have no regrets.

Unpaid internships aren't really fair, but exploitation? Idk about that. Either way this mode in Splatoon 2 sounds pretty clever in turning a grind-mechaninc into an actual grind.

Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS. No idea if I'll finish but playing this game on a handheld is a very enjoyable experience.
